Napoleon’s Garden

Size: 36 x 24 inches

My now husband and I would often go to Fontainebleau, the town just south of Paris, where he once lived. My first time visiting this small town was full of delicious food, time at the market, picnicking in the gardens, and exploring the town by foot.

I remember him taking me to see Château de Fontainebleau, and instantly I felt a sense of awe. From the Renaissance architecture, to the curated gardens, to the sweeping views of the river and beyond. Rich with history, this château was first a home for the Kings of France, passed down from generation to generation, and later home to Napoleon whose throne room is still there today. His mark still remains on the town, with stories and legends woven into the fabric of Fontainebleau.

As you look at this painting, I hope you find moments of awe as I combine the natural – the wildflowers, tulips, coneflowers– with the urban – Château de Fontainebleau, France.

Created with a combination of brushwork, application with a palette knife, and acrylic paint pens, this original artwork has been finished with a satin varnish for protection. The painting comes ready-to-hang with painted canvas edges and picture wire installed. The piece is titled, signed and dated on the back.
