Please note, commissions are closed for Q4 2022 and Q1 2023.

The commission process can take anywhere between 2 weeks to 3 months from enquiry to delivery. Timelines will depending on my availability and scheduling, size of painting and specifications of the request.

Process milestones

1. Enquiry

Express your interest in a commission by reaching out to me directly:

Once I receive your enquiry, I reach out by email to arrange a visit to see your space and/or a call to discuss the details of what you’re looking for.

2. Initial consultation

During the consultation, I ask you a series of questions to understand what you’d like from your tailored painting. We discuss:

  • Anticipated size, orientation and location of the painting
  • Specific subject matter you’d like represented, e.g., a specific city or flower, and the story behind it
  • Colour palette preferences
  • Any framing requirements
  • Other Malti B Lee originals that you particularly like and why – typically used as inspiration for the commission
  • Indicative timelines and prices

I like to do consultations in person if you are local, or over a video call in order to see the space you anticipate hanging your customised artwork. This way, I may be able to offer recommendations on the size or colour pallet, though these are entirely at your discretion.

Following the consultation, I share anticipated timelines and a price quote.

At this stage, if you would like to proceed with the commission, I require a 50% deposit to secure my time and materials paid through a link shared via email. The deposit is refundable at any point before the start date, and can be cancelled by either party.

3. Mock-up approval

Based on your inputs, I create a small-scale, indicative mock-up of the commissioned piece for your approval. Alignment of this mock-up is a critical step that helps me ensure that we are on the same page and that you will be happy with the final artwork.

Note: The mock-up will be indicative only, and will not be a full-scale version of the final artwork. You have the right to waive this requirement.

4. Final approval & delivery

Based on your initial inputs and the mock-up, I commence painting your commissioned artwork. Once finished, I photograph the work for your approval.

Upon approval, the remaining amount is due and shipping/delivery is scheduled.
