This July marked two years since I embarked on my journey as a full-time artist. For those who have been with me, you’ll know it’s been an incredible adventure. I’ve discovered my creative voice, held my first solo exhibition, worked on public and corporate commissions, and even moved across state lines. So much has happened and changed in such a short time.
Three years ago, I was living in London, working long hours as a management consultant with BCG. If you had told me then that I’d switch careers to become a working artist, showcasing and selling my work across the US while living in Texas, I would have laughed! Life has a funny way of unfolding, leading you down unexpected paths.
Reflecting on my first 24 months, I couldn’t be prouder!

Select highlights
While the numbers highlight some achievements (and help me track my goals), there were also many qualitative milestones that made this journey special. Here are a few highlights:
- Completed my first design project for an NHL team, the San Jose Sharks
- Saw my prints displayed in brick-and-mortar artisan stores
- Developed a painting style that feels authentically mine
- Built a supportive creative network in both Austin and the SF Bay Area
- Volunteered as an Art Docent, teaching in schools
- Co-chaired genARTS Silicon Valley, a local arts organization
- Began coaching other emerging artists on the business side of art
My Takeaways
Despite not achieving everything I set out to this year, one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as an emerging artist and solopreneur is to take things one step at a time. Embrace and love the process because life happens, plans change, and priorities shift – it’s all part of the journey.
Looking ahead to the next year, I’m filled with both apprehension and excitement! I hope to learn and grow as much in the coming years as I did in the past two, if not more.
Here’s to a fantastic year 3 in the art business and life!
