J is for Jonquil

Jonquils – sometimes called narcissus or rush daffodils – are associated with the Greek myth of Narcissus, a beautiful young man who was so enamoured of his own reflection that he drowned whilst staring at himself in a pool of water. Today on a lighter note, they are associated with creativity and inspiration.

For me, these blooms always mark the start of spring as rows of jonquils start to emerge from the ground.

Created with a combination of brushwork and applying paints with palette knife, this original artwork has been finished with a satin varnish for protection.
