Memories from the Canal

My first memories of Italy are in Venice, spending the days walking through narrow, cobbled streets, running over bridges, and traversing the city along canals. I still feel a sense of wonder as I think of the intricate facades floating above the waterways that have stood watching for centuries and kept the memories of moments passed.

Floating along the canals, I remember being struck by the façade of Ca’ d’Oro, the incredible Venetian gothic architecture with Byzantine influences, from the thin columns to the intricate decorations. As I created this painting with almost surreal roses, I thought about all those memories across time that have simply floated away.
